Perched high above Lake Michigan, we created a country house that feels like a full-time home.  The circa 1900 house original to the property could not withstand a gut renovation, so the client, joining forces with us and architectural firm Booth Hansen commissioned a cozy cabin from scratch. Although new construction, the brief was to create a home that looked like it had some history.  Using earthy colors, organic shapes, and tactile textures laid the foundation. Graphic kilims, Pendleton blankets, plenty of plaid, a rich leather chair, and a mohair sofa lend the home its down-to-earth sensibility. A custom-made, live-edge wood dining table and headboard in the main bedroom create a further sense of harmony with nature. In a subtle nod to the beach setting, we made sure to layer in lighter, airier pieces, from sisal rugs to the serene bedroom walls painted a cool blue.
